Key Principle-based Statements from Ellen G. White
Summary: The Bible and Ellen White point to one family, the human family descended from Adam and Eve. Ellen White emphasized that as one race we are connected to heaven: “In Christ the family of earth and the family of heaven are bound together. Christ glorified is our brother. Heaven is enshrined in humanity, and humanity is enfolded in the bosom of Infinite Love.” God the Father “gave His only begotten Son to become one of the human family, forever to retain His human nature” (The Desire of Ages, pp. 25, 26). We are “all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:28). In light of the incredible love and sacrifice of God, we can only respond by gathering as one equal family at the foot of the cross and, through the power of the Holy Spirit, love each other as God has loved us.
Ellen White Statements
“No distinction on account of nationality, race, or caste, is recognized by God. He is the Maker of all mankind. All men are of one family by creation, and all are one through redemption. Christ came to demolish every wall of partition, to throw open every compartment of the temple, that every soul may have free access to God. His love is so broad, so deep, so full, that it penetrates everywhere. It lifts out of Satan's circle the poor souls who have been deluded by his deceptions. It places them within reach of the throne of God, the throne encircled by the rainbow of promise. In Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free. All are brought nigh by His precious blood. (Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 2:13.)” Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 386.
“He who is closely connected with Christ is lifted above the prejudice of color or caste. His faith takes hold of eternal realities. The divine Author of truth is to be uplifted. Our hearts are to be filled with the faith that works by love and purifies the soul. The work of the good Samaritan is the example that we are to follow.” [See Luke 10:29-37.] Testimonies for the Church, vol. 9, p. 209.
“‘God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’ John 3:16. Christ came to this earth with a message of mercy and forgiveness. He laid the foundation for a religion by which Jew and Gentile, black and white, free and bond, are linked together in one common brotherhood, recognized as equal in the sight of God. The Saviour has a boundless love for every human being. In each one He sees capacity for improvement. With divine energy and hope He greets those for whom He has given His life. In His strength they can live a life rich in good works, filled with the power of the Spirit.” Testimonies for the Church, vol. 7, p. 225.
“The color of the skin is no criterion as to the value of the soul. By the mighty cleaver of truth we have all been quarried out from the world. God has taken us, all classes, all nations, all languages, all nationalities, and brought us into His workshop, to be prepared for His temple.” Letter 26, 1900. (Published in Manuscript Releases, vol. 4, pp. 16, 17.)
“Whoever of the human family give themselves to Christ, whoever hear the truth and obey it, become children of one family. The ignorant and the wise, the rich and the poor, the heathen and the slave, white or black,—Jesus paid the purchase money for their souls. If they believe on Him, His cleansing blood is applied to them. The black man's name is written in the book of life beside the white man's. All are one in Christ. Birth, station, nationality, or color cannot elevate or degrade men. The character makes the man.” Manuscript 6, 1891. (Published in Selected Messages, book 2, p. 342.)
