The reality of the nearness of the second advent of Christ dominated Ellen
White's life and shaped her writing career. Christ's return is seen as the
climax of salvation, signaling the beginning of the end of the great controversy
between good and evil, a supreme expression of God's love, the point of the
three angels' messages, an incentive for living the Christian life, and
demanding an urgency in preaching the gospel message to all the world in as
short a time as possible.

Thought for the Day
Man must be emptied of self before he can be, in the fullest sense, a believer in Jesus. When self is renounced, then the Lord can make man a new creature. New bottles can contain the new wine. The love of Christ will animate the believer with new life. In him who looks unto the Author and Finisher of our faith the character of Christ will be manifest. Desire of Ages, p. 280
