This week’s extra readings focus on practical approaches to reading Ellen White’s writings accurately, without distorting their meaning. The first resource, from Selected Messages, book 3, introduces a controversy involving a school board near the St. Helena Sanitarium. This account provides a firsthand example of how Ellen White interpreted her own prophetic writings and emphasized the importance of “common sense.”
Merlin Burt and George Knight explore hermeneutics and offer practical guidelines for correctly understanding Ellen White’s writings. Proper interpretation is essential for applying her prophetic counsel effectively in our lives.
Thought for the Day
The bitterness of grief and humiliation is better than the indulgences of sin. Through affliction God reveals to us the plague spots in our characters, that by His grace we may overcome our faults. Unknown chapters in regard to ourselves are opened to us, and the test comes, whether we will accept the reproof and the counsel of God. When brought into trial, we are not to fret and complain. We should not rebel, or worry ourselves out of the hand of Christ. We are to humble the soul before God. Desire of Ages, p. 301
