Lesson 4: New Testament Prophets

This week’s resources delve deeper into Ellen White’s primary prophetic mission: (a) to call people into a relationship with Jesus, and (b) to point them to His Word—the Bible. This twofold emphasis was the foundation of her entire ministry. In Selected Messages, book 3, Ellen White clarifies the relationship between the Bible and her writings, stressing that her works are never to replace Scripture, but rather to lead people to it.
The next section features a brief compilation of inspiring quotes from Ellen White that reflect her deep love for Jesus. Her expression—the “matchless charms of Jesus”—was her distinctive way of describing God’s grace and mercy.
Following this is a more theological reflection by Ekkehardt Mueller, who explores the gift of prophecy in the New Testament. He highlights Jesus as the “prophet par excellence” and examines the role of New Testament prophets. Mueller also connects the “Spirit of Prophecy” mentioned in Revelation to prophetic expressions throughout history, including the ministry of Ellen White.
Finally, Merlin Burt’s chapter, “The Foundational Orientation of Ellen White’s Prophetic Ministry,” provides vivid examples of Ellen White’s passion for Jesus and the Scriptures. He also explores how her writings relate to the Bible and their role in shaping Seventh-day Adventist beliefs.
